The Indianapolis Grand Prix Spindizzy Red Seat Race Car number PC010R by Authentic Models is a part of the Automobile Collection and measures 12.25L x 5.75W x 3.5H inches and weights 1.75 lbs. and is packaged in printed gift box. Its original makers were the famous Dooling Brothers, who manufactured around 1000 units at the time. They were offered to aficionados of the famous Dooling spin-dizzies, miniature motorized racecars that reached dizzying speeds. They were closely modeled on the famous Mercedes Silver Arrows of the early 1930s. Originals are now rare and highly prized by collectors. Molded with the same exacting detail as its original, our 12.2" Indy racer is hand-cast in airplane aluminum. Hand polished and buffed to a high shine, it features a detailed dashboard, faux leather seat, steering wheel and brake. In keeping with its original model-toy character, the front wheels are not linked to the steering wheel. The wheel hubs and rubber tires are made with the same exact detail as the original. Enjoy a truly unique piece of Grand Prix history. This shiny, sleek desktop racer represents both the romance and the dramatic beauty of the most famous Grand Prix racers ever!
The Bantam Midget 19 inch Toy Racing Car number PC011 by Authentic Models is a part of the Automobile Collection and measures 18.9L x 8.7W x 7.1H inches and weights 4.4 lbs. and is packaged in kraft box. The 1930s saw the rise of hand built model racecars, known as spindizzies or tether cars. Miniature racecars built by hobbyists zoomed around banked wooden tracks at speeds approaching 150 miles per hour. Resembling the full-size racers of their day, several spindizzies competed at once, tethered by cables to a central pole. Powered by model airplane engines, spindizzies raced against the clock. Incredibly detailed and aerodynamic, these miniature racecars were beyond toys; they were pieces of art representative of the best pioneering technology of the era. Constructed using original blueprints, our Bantam Midget model resembles the original down to the smallest detail. One look and you'll be ready to join the competition.
The Red Bantam Midget Toy Racing Car number PC012 by Authentic Models is a part of the Automobile Collection and measures 18.9L x 8.7W x 7.1H inches and weights 4.4 lbs. and is packaged in kraft box. Surprisingly sophisticated racecars in 1:8 scale raced tethered to a pole or to a chain track in a banked wooden racetrack, reaching speeds in excess of 150 mph...Imagine a corner of the 1939 New York Worlds Fair. A throng of thousands massing around a mini car-drome where racecars are being prepared for a major race. The scream of the engines fills the air. A mini NASCAR, Le Mans, Nuburgring...An American pastime; technology, cars, excitement! Spindizzies, named for the dizzying speeds they reached, were inspired by full size racecars. Handcrafted, large-scale miniatures were made by skilled owners, who often spent hundreds of hours on each car. They were true pieces of combined art and contemporary technology. Cherished by their owners, they now are coveted by collectors and car-buffs the world over. At nearly 20", 50cm, length the Bantam is a commanding presence in any mans den, library, office, or reception area. Truly hand tooled, traditionally die stamped body parts, in aluminum, brass and polished mahogany wood. Lift the hood; admire the replica engine. Turn the cockpit wheel and angle the front wheels. Smell the luxurious leather of the drivers seat. This is a touch of car history. High-tech nostalgia at its best.
